REUBEN WOOD – COMPANY/ART DIRECTOR

Reuban-Wood

After completing training in 1998 for Toni & Guy in London, Reuben went on to both work and teach for the company, before making the decision to start his own business and open his own salon at the age of twenty four. Reuben Wood Hair & Beauty opened in 2004 with an aim to providing Reuben a space in which he and his team could explore their creativity, as well as offering a constantly discerning service for their clients. An emphasis on teamwork and a strong work ethic has made the salon a much-loved Manchester institution.

To progress his company further and push new boundaries, Reuben and his business partners decided to open a new space: Reuben Wood Creatives – in October 2013. This space would be a fully functioning photographic studio (as well as a high-end salon) and provide the team with a place to explore a multitude of innovative endeavours such as editorial fashion shoots, teaching sessions, and private events. Since its opening, Reuben Wood Creatives has exceeded all expectations and become a vibrant and exciting creative hub which accepts new challenges and adapts to each individual client.

Alongside his Manchester business, Reuben has consistently worked as a session stylist in London, New York and Paris. Assisting top fashion hair stylists such as James Brown, Giannandrea and Martin Cullen, Reuben broadened his editorial experience and used these jobs as an opportunity to learn even more skills and techniques. Seeing himself as fortunate to have these incredible experiences – for example, working with photographer Nick Knight – Reuben takes advantage of these favourable circumstances to try to work on as many creative projects as possible.

Publications that Reuben’s work has appeared in include American Vogue and Another Man, together with working closely with various British and international celebrities for OK! magazine. In addition to working on fashion editorials, Reuben also has a wealth of experience at working with runway models for London and international fashion weeks, as well as styling a multitude of celebrities for both public appearances and personal engagements. One of Reuben’s favourite shows to be a part of was Nicola Formichetti’s debut at Diesel in April 2014: a beautiful Venice location and an opportunity to utilise extremely technical hair techniques involving complex braiding.

Now celebrating sixteen years in the industry, Reuben is embracing the new projects coming his way. Working with some of the top agencies in the country, he hopes to continue taking on fresh and constant challenges, alongside expanding his Manchester businesses.
